A chat platform built on keys, not credentials.

EmberChat reimagines the account model for realtime communication. By making identity a cryptographic keypair instead of an email and password, we remove the single largest source of consumer-app liability — and build a media stack we fully own.

The problem

Every mainstream chat product is built on a liability: a giant database of emails, phone numbers, and password hashes. That database is a breach target, a compliance burden, and a churn driver — users hate sign-up friction and they distrust apps that hoard their data.

Meanwhile, realtime voice and video is usually rented from a third party, leaving margin, quality, and roadmap control on the table.

The approach

Decentralized identity, zero PII

Accounts are Solana (ed25519) keypairs held on-device behind biometric unlock. There are no passwords to breach and no email/phone database to leak or subpoena. The attack surface that sinks most consumer apps simply does not exist here.

An owned media stack

Text, images, and video flow through our own Go server; realtime audio/video runs on a LiveKit SFU with server-minted, room-scoped tokens. We control the pipeline end to end — quality, cost, and roadmap are ours, not a third party’s.

Lean, single-binary backend

The server is one Go binary backed by PostgreSQL, with Redis, S3/MinIO, LiveKit, and push providers all optional and degrading gracefully. Trivial to run locally, cheap to scale, and operationally boring — which is exactly what you want.

One codebase, four platforms

A single Ionic/React app ships to web, iOS, Android, and desktop. New features land everywhere at once, keeping engineering spend low and the product surface consistent.
