Account & Data Deletion
You can delete your EmberChat account at any time. Deletion is available directly inside the app and can also be requested here on the web.
Delete from inside the app
This is the fastest way and works on the web, iPhone, and iPad:
- Open EmberChat and go to My Account (in the side menu).
- Select Delete Account.
- Confirm when prompted. Your account and associated data are removed as described below.
Open the web app to delete your account now.
Request deletion by email
If you can no longer access the app or your EmberChat ID, you can request deletion by email. Because your identity is your EmberChat ID (a public key), we may ask you to verify control of it (for example, by signing a message) before we process the request, so that no one can delete your account but you.
Email support@emberchat.live with the subject “Account deletion” and include your EmberChat ID (your public key and account identifier). Do not send your private key or recovery phrase — we will never ask for it.
What gets deleted
When your account is deleted, we immediately remove:
- your account record, keyed by your EmberChat ID;
- your profile data — display name, avatar, and bio;
- the messages you posted in rooms and your reactions;
- the pictures and videos you uploaded, including the stored files;
- your push notification tokens, stopping further notifications;
- your friends, blocks, preferences and settings stored on our servers;
- your flame and achievements (your active days, streaks and earned achievements);
- your session, which is held only in server memory;
- your abuse-prevention signals (the hashed app-install and network identifiers described in the Privacy Policy).
Your private key is never stored by us, so there is nothing on our side to delete there — it remains under your control on your device.
What may remain
- Rooms you created stay for their members, without you as the owner.
- Messages you sent to other people's or rooms' inboxes stay with the recipient, without your name.
- Reports and moderation records about your account are kept for up to 12 months after the case has closed, as described in the Privacy Policy.
- Copies in our backups disappear within 7 days, when those backups expire.
Is deletion reversible?
No. Account deletion is permanent. If you later want to use EmberChat again, you can create a new account with a new (or existing) EmberChat ID.
