Account & Data Deletion
You can delete your EmberChat account at any time. Deletion is available directly inside the app and can also be requested here on the web.
Delete from inside the app
This is the fastest way and works on every platform (web, iOS, Android, desktop):
- Open EmberChat and go to your profile / settings.
- Select Delete account.
- Confirm when prompted. Your account and associated data are removed as described below.
Open the web app to delete your account now.
Request deletion by email
If you can no longer access the app or your wallet, you can request deletion by email. Because your identity is your wallet public key, we may ask you to verify control of that wallet (for example, by signing a message) before we process the request, so that no one can delete your account but you.
Email support@emberchat.live with the subject “Account deletion” and include your wallet public key (your account identifier). Do not send your private key or recovery phrase — we will never ask for it.
What gets deleted
When your account is deleted, we remove from our active systems:
- your account record, keyed by your wallet public key;
- your profile data — display name, avatar, and bio;
- your push notification tokens, stopping further notifications;
- your personal preferences and settings stored on our servers;
- your session, which is held only in server memory.
Your private wallet key is never stored by us, so there is nothing on our side to delete there — it remains under your control on your device.
What may remain
Messages and media you posted into shared rooms may continue to appear in those rooms where removing them would break the conversation for other participants. Where such content remains, it is disassociated from your deleted account.
Residual copies may persist briefly in encrypted backups and are purged on our routine backup cycle. TODO: state the maximum backup-purge window.
Is deletion reversible?
No. Account deletion is permanent. If you later want to use EmberChat again, you can create a new account with a new (or existing) wallet.
